It is hard to believe the summer break has already come to a close. On behalf of the 2015-2016 PTA Board, I would like to welcome all of our new and returning families to College Heights Early Childhood Learning Center.
This year we are setting our sites high by continuing to bring quality programs to the children, fund professional learning for our teachers, and support the administration and staff through volunteering our time.
Our school received national attention in 2013 when President Obama visited the students, teachers and administration calling for more national funding of preschool programs. One of the reasons for our school’s continued success is our parents and their involvement. You can help us carry on this tradition in a number of ways.
- Join the PTA – We have made it even easier to join the PTA this year online on our website. Of course, we are still happy to take your information in person or you can leave it in the PTA mailbox at the front desk.
- Visit our website – we have recently updated our site to provide more information with and calendar of events, see a listing of our programs, get updated on events, sign up for email updates and provide a portal for you to get involved. http://collegeheightspta.org
- Volunteer – in the coming months we will have several opportunities for you to get involved through participation in Community Circle, helping in the garden and manning a station at the Fall Festival.
Over the years, the Decatur Education Foundation (DEF) has funding to CHECLC in a variety of ways, including over $6,000 in the past two years alone to fund specific requests from teachers. The PTA has been working closely with the DEF to create an afterschool scholarship program, which will fund 6 students from our Head Start Program. We are very excited about this program and it would not be possible without our parents and our partners at DEF.
Programs like these are funded through our two major fundraising events, the fall festival in October and the Silent Auction in February. Planning for the Silent Auction is underway but we are still looking for someone to be the Chairperson for our Fall Festival. If you are interested in becoming the Chairperson for the fall festival or just like to plan parties please let Suzanne Kennedy or myself know and we will be happy to discuss it with you.
Thank you for all of your support,
Phillip Wiedower, PTA President
